Another classic Hungarian movies are available online (mostly with English subtitle). 20 comedies till 10 May.
I picked 3 of them:
1.) Liliomfi (1954)
A classic romantic comedy set in the first half of the 19th century. "Liliomfi"( a tipical pseudonym for actors those days, means "son of the lily") is a young noble man who wants to live the hard but exciting life of actors and marry the woman of his own choice. Although the performances of the main protagonist are excellent too, the subplot of the servant boy and the maid in the tavern is just hilarious thanks to the comedian abilites of the actors.

2. A tanú [The Witness] (1969)
If you loved "The Death of Stalin", this extremely satirical movie is for you. A dike-reeve becomes the most important witness of a show trial of a political enemy of the actual regime. A very grotesque point of view of the life in the "Eastern bloc" in the early 1950s.

3. Csak semmi pánik [Just no panic] (1982) is the Hungarian answer to the Bud Spencer -Terence Hill movies. (István Bujtor, the leading actor of this film was actually the Hungarian voice of Bud Spencer in the dubbed versions.) Summer, beaches(lake Balaton), girls in bikinis and lots of fight scenes. And tipical Cental-European humor.

(I can even hear myself saying: "seriously"?😛) I guess, that's one of the reasons why I wasn't popular among my female colleagues.😂😂😂 (But the short haired girl next to me was talking really really really just bullshits.🙄😩) And I just now realised how stupid was the sit order: female block - male block. IS WILLIAM THE TRAGIC HERO OF #westworld ? (Spoiler alert: if you haven't seen S3E4 yet, please, be careful)
Ok, it's Westworld, so it can easily happen something next week, what overwrites the entire story we've already know, but... First of all, I think, William is a human. And it seems to be perfectly understandable, why only the 4th episode of the season is his one.
As the story began in S1, we knew nothing about the world outside the park, only that there are superrich people, who are wasting a lot of money for fucking and/or killing robots inside the park, without any further consequences. Later we've learnt that the nice guy, young William (Jimmy Simpson) and the "man in black"(Ed Harris), who seemed to be quite obsessed with this game are the same people.
The entire second season teased, that William might have been the subject of the same kind of experiment like his father-in-law, but with significantly more success. Even the post-credit scene of the season finale seemed to confirm this theory. But after the latest episode of season 3, it looks like he is just a human who simple went mad, because he was u able to distinguish what is real and what is fake.
In the first 3 episodes of the 3rd season we were finally able to learn more about the "real" world outside the park, and as Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) said recently, there are no differences between the world inside and outside the park(s). The outside world seems to be a fake one too, where superrich people are doing what they want without further consequences, while the rest of the society stucked in the loop created by an AI (Rehoboam). Withouth overthinking the most annoying line of the 1st episode about the "simulation within a simulation", paradoxically, it might be, that the "real" world is more fake, than the one in Westworld, and from this point of view it sounds quite different now, that William wanted to know, who is he, is he real, is he himself? (etc) INSIDE Westeworld. It's a similar paradoxity, like Caleb (aron Paul) said Dolores, she is the only real (!) thing happened to him since a very long time. [continues in the comments]

TRAPPED IN THE 18TH CENTURY

April is the month of the Battle of Culloden, the execution of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat and the birthday of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland. So, it seems to be the perfect time to focus a bit more on the events, places, people *etc) connected to the movements of Stuart-loyalists during the 18th century. (Not only '45, the other risings too)
As you can see the sneak peeks in my Insta-story, this mini-project will follow the basic structure of my website: people-places-events of the century.
The protagonists of this month will be defimitelly Bonnie Prince Charlie. I posted in Insta-story also a quote of Diana Preston's monography about the prince. That point of view of this historical person can be quite fascinating, if you're interested in researching cultural memory (or even the theory of "lieux de memoire" by Pierre Nora). 🤓📚📖🤓

This Hungarian film, based on the novel of Ferenc Sántha, is a tipical Central-European story, set in 1944 and focusing on the everyday people's behavior during the darkest period of the 20th century .
Friends are gathering every evening and talking about big philosophical and moral questions, what they would do if... But of course, they aren't heroes, only little cogs in the machinery.
If you want to undestand why some Central-European people, like me are sometimes cynical towards heroic fictional characters and prefers to follow stories of easily fallible everyday people, I think, this film is a perfect introduction. (*Attention: there is also a famous Ingmar Bergman movie "The seventh seal", please note that this post isn't about that one.) ___________________________

Notes:
1.) Obviously, I'm one week behind, but I assume from a distance of a few couple of months or even years it won't matter.
2.) I haven't seen Ep6 and the main reason of my procastination, that I know Duncan Lacroix mentioned at a fan meeting, that this is his best acting so far, and I wish him in every episode to have the chance showing his talent. But on the other hand I'm a bit concerned about his scene with Maria Doyle Kennedy, because the promo pictures and fan posts I've seen about it indicate, that it seems to be a bit an out-of-character situation. (Actually I think this "Murcasta" thing is totally out of character.) But this doesn't mean I don't respect the actors.
Even because I respect them much I want to be as accure and honest as I can with my opinion.
And even because I respect the actors currently I don't feel the neccesity of being attacked by some over-obsessed fans, just because they unable to understand my point of view.

Watching the 4th episode of #outlanderseason5 (recap comes soon), especially, when Roger was singing, a very interesting Hungarian recruiting custom from the 18th and early 19th century came to my mind.
There is a Hungarian dance genre called verbunkos [ver-boon-kosh]. Its name comes from the German word Werbung, which means advertisement nowadays, but back in time it had also the meaning of recruitment.
This music was played during the military recruitment, and when a man joined the dancing soldiers was the sign, that he also joined the army. It was quite a mean thing, because the music had such a good rhythm and people, especially young men loved to dance, therefore it was hard to refuse to do. (And many young boys probably weren't aware of the consequences of this custom.) __________________________
